Every morning I find myself having a media breakfast way before I have an actual breakfast. This is what keeps me growing, learning and evolving as a designer. Here you'll find the components of that meal... and some random stuff on the side

a positive session

Ian and I have been meaning to get our tarot cards read for a while. Ian had his read by Carol about 4-5 years ago. Carol was the one that predicted that I would come into Ian's life shortly. She nailed me down to even my astrological sign.

We just got back from a session with her. Ian's mom went with us and took notes about our readings. Ian went first and nailed him once again, especially with his job and what he should do. I must say that I was a little nervous about what the cards would say of me- I'm a private type of gal and don't like when people who don't really know me see through me. Overall it was a positive, optimistic read.

Ian and I had the same exact cards when it was about relationship, children and our lives together-- Carol was amazed at that, she had never seen something like that. We are meant to be!

Based on my birth date, this is what she gathered:

Very good nurturer, mother earth, the mother in the group
Excellent at expressing whats on my mind
Goes after what you want
1.5 years ago, I went through a big transission

My first card was the Queen of Clubs
Very beautiful, Very psychic. She asked me if I agreed and I definitely do. My mother and I have always had a very strange connection. Often times I have dreams with events that later on occur. Nonnie is always with me! Carol suggested that I try tea leaves. My second card was the same as Ian and its in regards to being conservative with our money. Light blue color is an important one to me. She said that a BIG project will be well in its way and be quite successful [Blue Rare is happening then]. I'm a lover of trees and should definitely have a garden.

She warned me to take it slow with an offer that will be made to me. It will not be a bad offer but give it some thought. With my creative area, children are involved. Ian and I had the same card. She asked if we've talked about it and if its a concern for us [anyone that knows what has been going on know this is a worry] The marriage card was also very positive and the same as Ians. I had four consecutive cards with the #4 of all suits. She was very intrigued by this. She asked us if Ian and I were planning on eloping and that Spring seems like the right time to get married. I am in a very good mature relationshps. She said that I like working a couple different jobs and that it suits me very well... that I should continue to do this.

My 10th area is foundation. I have a real calling in life and that I am very musical. Although I do not play any instruments, that will soon be changing. I am very positive, with new wisom. Very strong- lots of growth especially with nov/dec. Health is very positive. There is an underlying worry-- Ian had the same card.

She asked me if I have ever wanted to go to Ireland, particularly Dublin-- HMM no! There will be more info revealed to me. She said that I have to be very busy and constanly need activities. She told me to not be foolish- things will be very positive.

She ended by saying that I have a good relationship and that we motivate each other. We enjoy and are successful at doing the same things. Last thing Carol said was a warning "Don't get cut off from the world"

I would have to say that she read right through me and did well. I feel a little easier thinking about whats ahead of me and I'm optimistic with it all.

i am not a student

I need to keep reminding myself of this.... I am no longer a student and I need to start trusting my gut instincts. I have great opportunities to let my opinions heard and make decisions with big campaigns and i need to make sure I take advantage of these.

No more sitting in the back seat and waiting for others to ask me "what do you think". If I don't agree with something, I will speak out about it and help the work be better.

Big things are coming up and I better be ready for it all!!

day full of compliments

Today was a day full of compliments. I did casting for my first national radio spot and it was an amazing learning experience. After arriving about 20 minutes late {they forgot the south in Park Ave] i was worried about first impressions. I met with the owner and casting director of the agency. He's a "fabulous" guy with a lot of charisma. I found myself alone with Donna who was doing the recordings and the individuals who were auditioning for the parts. I was the only one who understood Spanish and therefore calling all the shots. Like Monica said "I'm officially an Art Director". After a long, joyous day I listened to the tracks and made my decisions. I emailed them to Lorraine this morning and the client agreed with my decisions!!

As I was getting ready this morning for work Ian goes "hey I thought you'd be gaining weight working at Il Porto but instead you've lost weight". Now those are the words every girl should hear every once in a while.

On my way to work this morning, i got an email from Lorraine about how Don [casting director] called her to rave about me. Apparently they all "instantly fell in love with me" and that I was beautiful. He then proceeded to ask Lorraine to get in touch with me because he would like for me to audition for some parts. HA! We're talking about the biggest casting director for movies, TV and radio in NYC. I took that quite as the compliment! I told Lorraine "yeah sure, what do I have to loose, life is full of opportunities and I plan on taking advantage of them" who knows, maybe you'll hear my voice on the radio or see my face on TV! [don't hold your breath]

I'm at the restaurant working the lunch shift and I get a 8 person table. One of the guys turns to me and says " hey I remember you , you're an RA at Pratt. No one can ever forget that beautiful smile". He was one of the detectives that was working on an incident. He was the one that knocked on my door and woke me up at 7 on a Saturday. I don't recall ever giving him a smile, especially that early in the morning. I recognized one of the other guys at the table as a contestant on last seasons of American Gladiators. He was the one that got taken out by Wolverine on the rings. He happily shared with excitement his experience with the show. He said that there were 10-20 minute pauses as they got the camera angles right and that the gladiators never stepped out of character.

It was nice to see some familiar faces at the restaurant today Asheley and her friend had lunch there and it was fun to briefly catch up on classes and what I would be doing had I stayed at Pratt.

I had dinner with my friend Tim from high school in Chinatown tonight. I haven't seen him in a few months and it was long overdue for us to get together and catch up with everything that has been going.

Time to do some major work before my session with Monica tomorrow and catch enough sleep for my directing debut tomorrow. I'm a little nervous about it but all I have to do is trust my instincts. I've been taught well!

shopping does me good!

I have barely had time to sleep, much less blog in the past week. So my apologies, this post will be all over the place with everything that has been going on. After working 7 days, today I finally got to sleep in and had the day off. Eventually rolled out of bed and made my way to China town. I needed a pocket book big enough to carry my laptop in. After stopping in every street vendor, i found the perfect one for a fair price.

Our friend from home, Greg was here this weekend for a Yankees game. After I got out of work I met the boys at Lombardi's Restaurant in Little Italy. I made the horrible mistake of cutting through the italian festival that was going on. After being stepped on, elbowed in the eye and spilled on... i actually made it to the restaurant. By the time I got there, the pizza was cold but its okay... i get to make up my own recipes for brick open pizzas at work. For dessert, we went across the street to Pinkberry. I had called Alyssa on my way to the restaurant to let her know that I was in the area and that we should meet up after she got done with work. As I was taking my phone out to see if she was done with work and to let her know that we were at Pinkberry, Ian nudged me to let me know that Alyssa had just walked in--- it was meant to be! Jessica was with Alyssa and after some delicious Pinkberry, I relinquished the boys from having to listen to our girl talks and stayed behind with the girls. We walked over to Broadway and said good bye to Jessica. Alyssa and I went into Urban Outfitters and I bought myself my chartreuse grandpa and bought Ian one of the shirt he liked.

EXCITING NEWS! I am working on my first national radio spot. Casting is tomorrow and directing on Friday. Yay for having this opportunity and YAY for going back to Bond Studios. I love that place and the people there.

The other day, one of the actors from the new fox show FRINGE, came into the restaurant with his girlfriend. Apparently their brick oven pizza wasn't filling enough because they had each other for lunch in one of the corner tables. I won't go into details but yeahhhhhh-- such entertainment.

Because I've been doing a good amount of shopping lately, I had to finally complete putting all of my clothes on the hangers. We've been in this apartment for about 4 months and I had a lot of my clothes all over the bedroom and on the floor in the closets. YAY for getting it all done and for getting rid of about a garbage bag full of clothes.

Monica and I are kicking ass and taking names with our business plan!

Enough for now, time for a hookah and a movie with the boy.

Anna Sui

Yay for Anna Sui and her fashion show!! I have always managed to somehow not go and visit Alyssa at the boutique while she's working for one reason: I didn't want to fall in love with the clothes and get myself in debt.... well i couldn't torture myself any longer and I graciously said YES to being Alyssa's +1 to the show. We got dressed up, had an awesome time at the show and finished it off by going to a Korean BBQ restaurant with the girls from her boutique and their +1s. Our shoes were killing us and had to call our boys to come and get us at the subway.

I am going to continue to bust my ass and save all the mula that I can because I want just about every single pieces from the Anna runway show when Spring time comes around. I love the spanish, matador, aztec print and I absolutely adore the sandals and shoes!

All the pictures that are up on this post were found online. Hopefully I will have my own photographs next season [cross fingers]

We went to the party at the boutique today. After being slammed at work with people-- horrible subway ride-- and crazy packed Soho, i made it in and met up with Monica and Natalie. Enjoyed some finger food and walked around looking through the racks. I ended up buying a pair of really cute off white tights with orange and yellow butterflies on them. We left for Happy Hour drinks at Gonzales & Gonzalez. We had a shitty experience with our waiter but a wonderful time over appetizers and drinks. The "hispanic, first date" table next to us was HILARIOUS! Anna arrived at the boutique about 5 minutes after we left-- oh bummer.

One more party to go tomorrow and it will be a fun one cuz its with all the girls! yay for fashion week and yay for my bed and comforter on this chilly night tonight!

busyyyyy time

After doing some major research on what I needed to know before starting the Tri-Sigma work, I gave up. I joined the boy in watching Robin Hood, Man in Tights and fell asleep within 5 minutes. I woke up early this morning, worked all day in front of the computer all day and came up with really good stuff.

I could not bring myself to go to Seraphin's memorial service. I was a mess when I found out and was a mess thinking about going tonight.

I have a very busy schedule ahead of me in the next 5 days. Work from 10-4, get back, get ready for the Anna Sui fashion show and then do it again for the next 2 days with Fashion Show parties with the ladies. ** Anna Sui's collection is mexican, spanish inspired with the colors PINKS, YELLOWS, GREENS

Random thought--- i'm currently watching E! News and Victoria Beckham went under the clippers and got an ultra chic, pixie boy hair cut!! Great except that its the haircut I got over a year ago and getting again in a few weeks. Now everyone is going to think that I got it because of her... phewww i'll rock it better

Back to blog.... Fringe season premiere was tonight. Ian and I watched the leaked pilot episode about 2 months ago and have seen it 3 times since. We were like kids on Christmas morning with the new scenes that they worked into the pilot episode. Cool fact about the show-- they're going to be regularly video taping sections on campus, particularly, the outside of Steuben building.

Allright sleep time... i know that there is more that I wish to blog about but my sleepy eyes are stopping me from doing so.

life is full of surprises

Okay so recap of what has been going on lately. Working at the restaurant is fantastic and quite enjoyable! Yesterday I got to spend time some good quality time with my sister from another family - Alyssa. I always always always love spending time with her. She came over, recharged her laptop cuz her power cord died and then got some pizza from Il Porto. Alex came over after work and we had a good time. We left the boys to have some manly bonding time over music and drums and we left for the Tri-Sigma/Kappa Sigma mixer. It was soooo nice to see all the girls and all my boys. The group of people there were the stress and drama free bunch who love what they do and love being around people. Our potential new girls are AMAZING and I'm excited to be able to call them my sisters. I don't get to go to events very often since i'm on Alum status and I def enjoy anytime I get to show support and see my favorite people.

I got to briefly hang out with Monica and Natalie as they grabbed some food before class. Hearing all the stories about fashion week, I wish I was there in the midst of it all. The ladies are having a wonderful time and I hope that they have a fabolous rest of the time mingling and schmoozing with fashion icons and ubber skinny models, drinking champagne and getting awesome goody bags.

Update on my creative work with Tri-Sigma.... having a while to come with what I need to design turned to 3 days. I can't go into specifics as to what I'm exactly doing but it is going to be fantastic and lots of fun. I'm excited to be part of such a huge project and I cannot wait for the Colony to become an official chapter.

Okay enough for now, time to get back to my glass of Merlot and watch a movie with the boy. I will be waking up early tomorrow to do all the Sigma work. Good bye for now.

yesterday was a magnificient day [for the most part]

I started my first shift at Il Porto . It is a new italian restaurant on Washington with authentic brick oven pizzas and lots of choices for entrees. My first day couldn't have gone any better, Andrew is awesome, the kitchen staff is respectful and polite and the general atmosphere is laid back. They do not have their liquor license yet, they've only been open for a little over 2 weeks so its pretty much BYOB.

The best part of the day was finding out that the visit we got yesterday from the local fire department is a regular one. The fire station makes a daily trip to the restaurant for their lunch and let me tell you something, it is a walking calendar [hotness!!]

Worst part of it all was loosing all of my skin from the back of my feet thanks to new shoes blisters. By the time I was done, Ian had to meet me outside the restaurant with a pair of flip flops because I could not walk another inch in the shoes I got. I soaked my feet in water when I got back to the apartment and screamed bloody murder. I can't quite walk this morning but I'll figure something out for tonight since i'm working the packed dinner shift.

Best part of my day was getting a phone call from Brenda who up in the ranks in the sorority at a National level. I have been wanting to do work for the sorority and I knew it was a matter of time before it would happen. It is official, I will be doing work for Sigma Sigma Sigma for the next few years and I couldn't be happier especially considering everything that has been happening lately. I got home and texted Sherry about it-- i had a feeling she had something to do with it all. She immediately called me back and we talked for over an hour about everything. Sherry has become a second mother figure in my life and it is amazing. Our conversation ended on a hilarious note-- talking about Sarah Palin's youngest daughter licking her hand and then trying to fix the baby's hair... HILARIOUS!!

local cuisine

Living in Brooklyn can be expensive and I want to have lots of left over money [of course, after making payments on my loans] to have fun and do things. Aside from the creative work that i've been doing, tomorrow I start my waitressing job at the new italian restaurant on Washington Ave-- Il Porto. I will have to find the balance between working there, design work that i'm doing, bartending at Mojito's and business adventure with Monica. The semester has started and although I am not taking any classes this semester, the sleepless nights are about to begin and I CANNOT WAIT!

Fashion Week is here and although I don't have the cool job that Monica or Natalie have, I am still gonna have a blast and check out the Anna Sui show, followed by her party and then another party the next day. Soon enough Monica and I will be asked to come to all the shows and parties because we're taking over the world-- just wait and see.
